Yes, unfortunately the rumors are true. The 64th Annual Nelson Midsummer Bonspiel will be our last one. This has been a very difficult decision to make but due to declining numbers and aging attendees, one of the longest running amateur sporting events in Canada will be no more.
We are inviting all that have ever attended or not to come and say goodbye to the Old Girl. Even if you can’t get down in the hack, or can’t make it for the full week, we’re inviting you to come and reminisce about the glory days of one of the events that make curling the great game that it is. We are going to go out with a blast!
The dates are from July 6 to 12, 2008. There are separate men’s and ladies events, with a guarantee of 4 games. Entry is still $320.00 per team, and that includes a commemorative T-shirt, a Pacific salmon barbecue on the 6th, with nightly musical entertainment through the week, and occasionally some pretty good curling. Plus the best ice you’ll find anywhere in July. Because we’re keeping the curling in the curling club, we are limiting the event to the first 108 paid teams. So get your team entry in as early as possible. Make cheques payable to Nelson Midsummer Bonspiel. Please indicate your T-shirt size on the registration form. Extra shirts will be available for sale at the Registration desk for $20.
The Midsummer Main Page has two options for registering. If you have Microsoft Word on your computer, you can fill in a Word entry form and simply email it to us, and snail mail your cheque. Otherwise you can print off an entry form, fill it in, and mail form and cheque.
We will be sending out our Christmas cards as well. If you don’t have a full team, enter as a single, and we will find a team for you to curl on. Please indicate on the entry form the number of years you have attended our bonspiel as we would like to recognize those curlers of long standing who have supported us over the years.
Further information can be obtained by calling Barry at 250-352-6423. If you are planning on attending, enter early and book your reservations soon as we are expecting places to fill up quickly.
In addition to registering through the website, you can register with the Nelson Curling Club at 250-352-7628 or with Sherry McIvor at 250-352-2132. Remember, the first 108 paid teams will be guaranteed a spot.
